REAL families are facing food and housing insecurities, while our kids try their best to continue learning and growing. But the truth is, it's hard to learn on an empty belly.
Our amazing volunteers like our math club leader, Laura Smith, an Endicott student from Salem, work with REAL kids weekly to keep learning fun and keep the kids on the path to educational success.
To meet the needs of the kids, we have pivoted from in-person learning at the Payne Family Literacy house, to at-home zoom meet-ups. Each week, REAL volunteers like Laura provide fun activities for the kids, including online zoom Dance Club, Math Club, art classes, book and film literacy, a Graphic Novel class, and our traditional literacy and Reading Buddy groups.
Many of our kids' parents and supporting family members have lost their jobs. Others are front line workers, working service jobs, and support jobs via the airport, food delivery, and public transportation. They are working in red zone communities, risking their family's health to keep our communities and economy running. Unfortunately, their hard work is not enough to offset work hour cuts, low wages, and increased costs. Many are far behind because of the shutdowns and facing housing and food insecurity. REAL has delivered homecooked meals, grocery gift certificates, and now, winter clothes.
Everything we do here at REAL, we do to benefit families long-term, to uplift our community as a whole. We could use your fiscal help to support REAL kids and their families. Won't you make a donation today to increase REAL's ability to continue to help teach, and support our families?
Every gift will be matched by a generous, anonymous donor, up to our $10,000 fundraising goal, making this the perfect time to truly make a difference.
Although there is light at the end of the tunnel with the great vaccine news, that end is still months away. A one-time donation is greatly appreciated, and monthly contributions will stretch the REAL Program's ability to help our families for the duration.
With your help, we can help REAL kids - your community neighbors - to thrive.
Will you give what you can today and help REAL help our families?
Together, let's keep these little bellies, hearts, and minds, full; full of love, possibility, and positivity! Let's help them see that there are helpers, even during the hardest times. Let's be the silver linings of this pandemic, together.
